Gold has been known since antiquity and was the first metal to be worked by man.

Filigree is the art of Terra do Ouro (The Land of Gold), a technique of goldsmithing which pays special attention to specific features and details.

According to finds discovered at the hill fort settlement of Lanhoso, including three finely worked gold torques dating from 1st millennium BC, conclusions can be drawn that this technique dates back to pre-Roman civilisations.

There are various peoples that worked gold many centuries ago and many using similar techniques, however, delicacy and minute detail are characteristic of Portuguese filigree which results in finely-worked threads that are unique worldwide.

Come and discover a rich heritage handed down from generation to generation, where patience, imagination and the goldsmith’s work can be seen in every piece, making it unique.
